A variant black cover worth around $125.00 has a number of counterfeit copies in the marketplace. The red cover has been stained black. CGC  says it has examined 6 issues with the black cover and has spent up to 2 months looking at a single issue before certifiying it. The black copy is actually a printing error and has been confirmed by John Taddeo who was in charge of the printing at Marvel during that period.

 A 9.0 black copy being auctioned on eBay failed to reach the dealer's reserve at $416.00. Debate contines as to whether counterfeit comics should be listed in the Overstreet guide.
